I'm a reader. I love that, with a turn of a page, you can visit new places and explore new ideas. I love the different images and worlds that can be conjured with words. I love the different styles and the varying atmospheres and feelings that an author can create. And I love libraries. I find that when my life gets stressful, more than tv, I like to escape into books.
In the Chicago Public Library system there are 79 branches. It's a big city, but that's still an impressive number of branches. There is a branch not too far from where I live, but the one that I visit the most is the Harold Washington Library downtown. It's roughly a mile from where I work, but conveniently located along the train line, so I often will walk over there during my lunch hour and then ride the El the short way around the loop to get back. It's a beautiful arrangement.
This library is such a big place, they have so much going on in there! In addition to all the many collections of books, there are receptions halls and auditoriums with all sorts of programs scheduled each month. And it's all housed in this fabulous building:

Even on the back end, smashed up against the El, this building has great architectural elements:
Yep, definitely one of my favorite places in Chicago.
