Words are funny things... On one hand it can mean:
"any of several subterranean, edible, ascomycetous fungi of the genus Tuber; any of various similar fungi of other genera."
or, conversely:
"a candy made of soft chocolate, shaped into a ball and dusted with cocoa, or sometimes a three-layered cube of light and dark chocolate." (thank you dictionary.com)
Foodie though I may be, one of these seems substantially more interesting to me than the other.
So I have this recipe for truffles, exceptionally tasty truffles (of the chocolate variety)... but I discovered, after last year's experiment, they are exceptionally messy to make as well. However, they are just the right blend of simple yet fancy-looking, and yummy-tasting that I'm not quite willing to completely disqualify them from my baking repertoire. So, instead, they've become a once-a-year special treat that happens to coincide with a particular, silly, holiday that falls in February. This year they'll be part of the Anti-Valentines Day FHE Game Night we're having.
Aren't they pretty!
Still, I maintain that:

Amazing! Just once a year, eh? That's really unfortunate. I can think of an occasion in about two weeks where they would be wonderful. Oh, well. Hope they taste good! They sure look good.
Mmmmmm.... I may have to try some of that stuff. Looks delicious.
Hmm.. that is true, there is that occasion coming up in a few weeks.. I'll have to try to save some aside and bring them with us :)
I love oreo truffles. and pretty much any truffles. I always think Chocolate when I hear truffles, and then I fantasize about a bag of Lindt milk chocolate truffles. yum.
Yeah, I almost forget that there is a different kind of truffle than chocolate :) I'm very happy to have discovered oreo truffles; no way I'd actually make more fancy kinds.. heh.
