Wheee!

Living in Illinois, one doesn't really expect to be woken in the wee hours of the morning by an earthquake.

Typically, I'm a fairly heavy sleeper (though, now that I sleep more regularly, it's not so crazy as in years past).. Still, there are certain things that I'm tuned in to that will pretty much always wake me up: my bedroom door opening, phones ringing, people saying my name.. You know, the usual gambit. Though, apparently, to earthquakes too.

Way back 2008, on April 18th, very early in the morning, I woke up 'cuz my bed was shaking.. but as I laid there for a few minutes, nothing happened; there were no unusual noises, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.. so I chalked it up to a crazy dream and went back to sleep. Later that morning I read about how northern Chicago had experienced a minor earthquake (this site says it was a 5.4 at it's origin).

Then, this morning, I woke up around 4am 'cuz our house was rattling. It seemed to go on for a longish time, but we did just get a bunch of snow last night, so I figured it was a snowplow rumbling by and went back to sleep. Only, according to the news and this other site, that rumbling was actually an earthquake. Crazy!

Happily, there doesn't seem to be any damage.. but still.. whoda thunk?

That would be really weird!! Especially cuz you were sleeping, so you would naturally think it's something else. Never wudda thunk about it being an eathquake. :)

Yeah.. that's just not an automatic thought (unless, perhaps you live in California or something).. it was pretty funny though, 'cuz I didn't realize it until later that morning.
