Long before we ever made it out to California, to
visit my sister and her husband, my Hubby had been telling me about this fabulous music store:
Amoeba. It's an independent music store with only three locations, all in southern California, but it's a place of great reputation. He told of a store that had amazing selection of both new and used, so many bands, so many CDs (and tons of vinyl). It was a "Hipster Mecca", and the LA store was the grandest of all.
He told me all this, and I heard and understood him .. yet I was still not quite prepared for the reality of it all.
Outside the front entrance...
HUGE mural on the side of the building...
this is only the very front corner of the store... there's SO MUCH MORE!!It was VERY impressive :)
Indeed, so many bands to choose from; rows and rows of albums to select from, predominantly from the family of rock (of all eras and sorts) ... and I, the nerd that I am, came home with 2
Puccini operas and an album of
Renée Fleming singing Handel arias.

When I was a kid I used to get my music in SLC from a place called Rat Fink Music. I wonder if they're still around? Sadly, a quick google search did not turn up anything. They had the most unique logo.
Hooray for independent music stores that are so cool :)
It's a shame you couldn't find the logo.. I'm curious now!
