Flexibility Begets Awesomeness

A while back, I painted a large canvas for the baby room. Around that time, while cleaning and organizing, I found a few small canvases that I may or may not have forgotten I'd collected. So, this time around, I put them all in one spot so they'd not get lost again and figured, eventually, I'd come up with an awesome use for them.

Fast-forward to a few weeks ago. Cruising around the internets, I came across this blog post that had a collection of ideas for simple, DIY home decor. This particular one really popped out to me; I thought: Done in shades of blue, this would be perfect for that naked wall in my room. At last! An awesome use for those small canvases!

Now, I didn't have all nine canvases on-hand, so this called for a craft-store-run. As it happened, that very weekend my favorite craft store was having a super sale on canvases. Score! So I rushed over there and discovered that pretty much everybody had had the same idea; they were completely out of the size I needed and pretty much out of all the similar sized, small canvases as well. I was a little bummed.

So, I stood there in that store isle, contemplating my options: Get nine very big canvases? Come back later? Alter the design slightly? Go in a whole new direction?

I decided to be flexible. I'd still do the shades of blue with white squiggles, but on three panel canvases instead, which would cover roughly the same area on that naked wall. Once decided, I grabbed my three canvases, picked up some paint, and headed home.

However, I didn't find the time to paint these canvases for a few weeks. All that while, I was mulling over the options for painting those waiting canvases. The color scheme never altered, but somewhere in there, I decided that even more fun than squiggles, would be to use old bottles and cans (just hanging out in my recycle bin) to print varying sizes of circles.

stage two - circles with white paint, once the blue had dried

Here's the finished product, up on the wall and everything!

I'm very happy with how they turned out!
