Singing in the Rain

So, a while back, a good friend and I went to see a Sound of Music sing-a-long. It was a blast! And, after it was over, we asked the people at the theater if there were other sing-a-longs planned for the near future. We were hoping for something awesome, like Singing in the Rain, but the options were only Grease and Rocky Horror Picture Show (neither of which really appealed to us). Sigh.

However, my friend is well-tuned to things happen around in the city and when she got wind of a 60th Anniversary showing of Singing in the Rain at a local movie theater, she called me up. Who can resist seeing that movie on the big screen?? Revisiting the Golden Age of movies, when studios still got romance right....

*sappy sigh*

So we went!

That's one of my favorite musicals.. it's just so much fun! And even the parts I don't really love (like that forever-long dance sequence with the girl in the green dress and that wild wavy veil part) were fun to watch in the theater.

So, perhaps it's silly to pay money to watch a movie in the theater when you've got the DVD at home.... but there is something extra magical about being surrounded by others who love the movie as much as you do and seeing an old classic blown up on the big screen.
Hooray for musical-movie-buddies! I'm glad we went!

Gene Kelly is dreamy...seriously. I love his work. Brigadoon is one of my favorite's.

And Debbie reynolds is one of my favorite actresses. Unsinkable Molly Brown? Yes, please!!

Oh my YES. And he's 40 in this movie!
Brigadoon is also very excellent (though, I think Debbie Reynolds is cuter than the lady who played Fiona) :)
