The other weekend Townshend and I almost had to ride the train back home from downtown but, to Townshend's great dissapointment I managed to successfully get the car out of the parking garage and we drove home - in his eyes, I owed him a ride on a train. So, this past weekend I made good on that debt.
It's getting colder now and, this year, I seem to be dreading the winter more than is typical. I must be getting older; it's not even really been that cold yet, and it seems to be hitting me harder already. The good news is that, just a train ride away, there's a little oasis of summer - the Garfield Park Conservatory.
It's a lovely place to visit, warm and fresh air, beautiful plants, and lots of fun things to look at. Recently, Townshend read about "flesh eating" plants and he was eager to see if our conservatory had any.. they did.
Then, of course, there's the kid section to climb and run and play in.
Finally, we'd all seen our fill and it was time to head back to the train.
It's always a welcome reprieve from the cold to come visit. I think we may be there a few more times as the winter progresses!

Cheaper and quicker than running away to Florida, and a good train ride to boot!
