There's a particular show that's been here in town for nearly three years (it's awesome that the Chicago theater scene is such that it can hold the big shows for that long).. It's a show that has been a favorite at our house almost as long. There may be occasional tell-tell signs:
Hubby and I got tickets a couple years ago (had to buy them nearly a year in advance... the waiting was soooo painful!!).. but it was worth the wait and Hubby and I loved it.
So... my love of the show has splashed onto my kids. They both listen to it frequently and enjoy it. My big guy has been asking to see it for a while... but he is just seven and a three hour musical play is a long time to sit and be quiet. So, Hubby and I demurred. However, when I heard that the show was leaving Chicago in January.. we decided to spring for some tickets for him for his birthday in October.
We bought them some months ago (though, not nearly so long as that first wait), well before the birthday. But finally the birthday arrived and he unwrapped them... He was veeeeery excited! However, as the day of the show drew nearer, he had a nasty cough.
In the week leading up to it, he missed a couple days of school. We were all really worried his cough would be too bad to let him go to the show. However, we all were praying and the Lord was merciful and we felt really blessed that his cough was all but gone by that Saturday afternoon.
And so we went! I got to go one last time and Townshend got to be in the room where it happens! He did so well! and he loved it.
There was a little excitement when I forgot my credit card and had to figure out how to ransom the car from the parking garage after the show, but we sorted it out (another tender mercy) and we got to drive home.
