Build-ins are DONE!!

So this move-in of ours has been all about incremental steps; one little thing at a time. It's been almost three months, but all the add-ons that we planned are finally DONE!

One of the things we were most excited about was some build-ins that we had made. Hubby and I decided to have two custom built units put in. One for the main level, that will replace our bookcases and be our entertainment center:

Originally, the wall looked like this:

Then there was this:

Eventually followed by this:

And then, with all the finishing touches, it became this!

Oooh how I love this! We put the tv up the week after the whole thing was completed, and we'll wait another week or so to add our books so the paint can fully set. But it is so great!

The other piece we had made was to house all of Hubby's 1500+ CDs. For the last few year's, he's had an amazingly large case that held them, but here we couldn't figure out where it'd fit (plus, it's been moved a few times and showing great wear). So, we decided to have a shelf designed specifically for him.

Now, due to our open layout (which I adore), we have fewer walls overall, so we decided to have the CD shelf act as a room divider/wall. But, I didn't want a blank wall facing the door, so we added a function to the other side as well.. an entryway coat hanging thing.

So, what was this:

Became this:

Our carpenter was really great to work with; willing to design a weird thingy like this for us and it turned out just like we'd hoped. Hubby figures the CD shelf should hold upwards of 2000 CDs, so he's quite happy. and I really like having a central place to put coats and shoes.

CD side:

Entryway side:

Now we're just waiting for another week or so, for the paint to fully set, and we'll add our books and CDs and everything. That'll clear up almost all of the remaining boxes! Sooo ready for fewer boxes.

Those look so nice! I can just imagine how nice the coat spot will be. I'm in favor of things that bring independence to little people!!

Now that you're getting settled in we'll have to find some excuse to come by for another visit and see how itall looks. It sounds fantastic!
