This past week, we had a visitor come to our house. Of course, we had to find something to entertain us, so we took a walk to the nearby community garden. It's in the yard of a school not too far from home and, in it, they grow flowers and veggies, as well as an active compost pile. There are also benches and statues set around to let the neighborhood know that anyone is welcome to wander through. Though, the plants and things are part of the school's classes, so the things growing there aren't for picking. I think it's such a great idea and had to show our visitor.
Now that it's May, the frosts around here are *mostly* done and it's mostly safe to start planting. Traditionally, the weekend after mother's day is my day for planting my little patio garden. So, we went to go pick out our plants. This year I got another tomato and basil, and some flowers for my over-the-railing planters, and then, just to see if I could make anything of it, I got some strawberries as well. Wish me luck!!
After all that wandering and considering, we loaded our selections into the car:
Finally, it was time to play in the dirt! Patio gardening is pretty cool.. While I do have to strategically place things so to guarantee that they will get enough sunshine, I don't generally have to worry about critters getting into my plants and eating up the fruits of my labors. However, one downside of doing it this way is, when you run out of dirt, you can't just go to another corner of the yard to get more.
Here are the results of our combined efforts!
He can come visit me anytime!
