I think I was about 16 when I last went on a family road trip out West (which was more than a year or two ago). So, when my folks invited me to tag along this summer, I leapt at the chance!
I'd forgotten how scenic this road trip is. I mean, it's long and we drove all the way there in just two days, but I love that little slice of the country; it's just a taste of how diverse the U.S. is! And the mountains are SO pretty. Plus, hanging out with family made it all worth it.
Our Chariot: all packed and ready to go!
Resting in Iowa, and they call Illinois flat!
Though, Iowa's flatness is great for Wind Farming!
Funny sign by the hotel where we stayed in Nebraska
Best Rest-Stop in Nebraska!
Resting in Wyoming
Switching drivers in Evanston, WY
We made it all the way to Northern Utah. Yay!!

I love how all of your pictures are of the van! How fun! Sounds like it was a wonderful trip for everyone!
Haha.. yeah, I thought that would make for a funny blog post! :)
You should have stayed in Ogallala Nebraska and gone swimming in Lake McConaughy. We used to drive there as a family to camp and swim. So fun to swim in a lake. It was fun to see you stopped in a place that brought back some of my childhood memories.
That's awesome! I have to admit that, prior to my stopping in Ogallala, I didn't think there was much to Nebraska outside of I-80. In that little building was a cute little old lady who was giving out information on the area and one of the brochures was about that lake. It looks really great! I might have to give Nebraska a second look :)
It totally looked like your van was being held ransom, and the captors were showing you it was still okay while they waited for payment.
Either that or some prank by some youngsters showing you what they did with your van while you weren't looking.
