Punk Rock Pastry

The other week I was driving with a friend to some something or other, and we passed a storefront that caught my passenger's attention: Bleeding Heart Bakery - Local, Sustainable, Punk Rock Pastry.

Yes. You read that right: Punk rock pastry. That got us talking, and we began to wonder: What makes a pastry punkish? Do the cupcakes have mohawks? .. candy piercings?

It was decided. We had to go there - for research's sake. And we did.

It was definitely a full sensory experience. The bakery is pretty small, but cozy and those behind the counter were friendly and quite helpful. There was punk music playing and the colors all around were vivid and the wall decorations spunky and eye catching.

There were no mohawked or pierced cupcakes on display.. but they did have a tattoo cake that was cool looking (here is a gallery, linked to from their home page, with more cake examples).

In the display case, there was a wide array of pastries spread before us, each as tantalizing as the next. Picking just one was difficult! (they don't allow pictures of their pastries on account of the competition being so intense.. my pictures might end up on the internet and "the internet is not a friendly place") I can respect that, no picture of their food was taken by me. But here's a picture of what was left after I enjoyed a tasty tasty pumpkin muffin and intensely chocolaty hot chocolate.

Yu-huh-mmy!
