However, I do like to watch my shows from time to time as well. (Hooray for Hulu!) Then, not too long ago, I discovered that the entire first four seasons of Bones is available to stream from Netflix. Oh baby oh baby!
I do like Bones. I've actually seen most all of the episodes, except for a few here and there, so it's the perfect backdrop for when I'm working on my designs. I do much of the finalizing and the cutting of the stencils at my computer desk. So, as I set to work, I'll set up one of the streamable episodes of Bones; thus keeping my mind entertained while my hands are busy with the manual labor. It's a beautiful arrangement.Anyway, Bones - the tv show, is actually based loosely on a series of books written by Kathy Reichs. I had heard of the books, but hadn't really known much about them. Were they any good? Were the stories and characters close to that of the show? Finally, a few weeks ago, my curiosity got the better of me and I did some research.
Turns out that the books are well regarded; she's won awards for them. The consumer reviews on Amazon were predominantly positive (except for those people who were disappointed that the books were not identical to the show)... so, noting that difference, I thought I'd give the books a shot and I sought out her first one: "Deja Dead".
Oh man! This was a thrilling book! Written in the first-person, we get to see the internal thoughts and workings of the main character, Temperance Brennan, or Tempe. The descriptions of events and things are really in-depth.. gritty even. (and, disclaimer: there is strong language from time to time) The author weaves a very compelling story. It starts off with lots of details and introduction of main players, which is important for a solid series. Tempe isn't always the perfect hero.. she gets herself in some intense situations by making some less than wise choices (but we've seen her logic, so the reader knows her justifications for each scrape she gets herself in)... and once the story gets going, it's full steam ahead! There is some mild predictability in the formula of the story, but it's still a page-turner for sure. I stayed up past 11pm last night just so I could see how things would play out in the end.
A very good read!
