Way back, last December, our ward had an activity where several ladies set up stations where they taught their skills to whomever wanted to listen. Since it was around Christmas time, I was most interested in the station where we made ornament wreaths. However, among the other stations was one on Freezer Paper Stencils. I couldn't think of anything I wanted to stencil that day, but I was definitely intrigued, so I talked to the girl in charge and got a general idea of how it's done. (One thing I love about Relief Society is that it brings all sorts of people together who might not otherwise have an opportunity to share talents or hangout.)
Now, months later, I think I've finally found something that I want to stencil: Grocery Totes! And while I did miss the boat back in December, happily, the internet is full of helpful sites that give ideas and direction for learning all sorts of new skills. I found this one to be most helpful, but this one and this one had some good suggestions too.
Behold:
Wohoo!
Well, I learned that softer material probably would work better.. and it's not an exact science; the stencils kinda curl when they get wet. Less paint is better and rubbing is bad. And, simpler is better.
But, all in all, while not perfect, it's definitely very satisfying work!

This is cool! Where did you get plain grocery totes? All the ones I've seen have a goofy logo from the store you buy them at.
Thanks!
I got the tote from JoAnn's.. the one by me had several totes - denim and canvas, of different sizes, all plain.
I kinda wish I'd gotten a lighter colored one 'cuz the Animal print doesn't look as cool as it did in black and white on the paper.
Ah well, it's my first try. I'll do better next time :)
As usual, so artistic and creative!
and it's a satisfying kind of work! :)
Very cool!! I love them.
