The big guy is growing up

My big guy is coming up on 8 years old, and he's getting very definite opinions on many things.. one of  those things is he's been asking to update the decor in his bedroom. And, honestly, we haven't done much since we updated the wall color back in 2016. Here's a sort of what it was before: bed on the left (though this picture was before he got his big kid bed), shelf on the right, upcycled grey curtains with white edges.

This all seemed a reasonable request, so we've been discussing and planning what he wants to change or keep. He's also big enough to have a hand in making the changes. In the last few weeks, we rearranged the room - flipped the shelf and the bed, and the curtains had been gone from the windows for some time, so we thought we'd get some better ones (that stayed up without so much help). Then it was time to talk about updating the stuff on the walls.

First, he wanted a new poster; one with the solar system. We did some online searches and we found this super cool one that had information about all the different vessels that have been sent into space as well as having little lines showing their voyage route.

So, we popped the new poster into a frame and into the wall it went. Of course, it needed to be low enough that the routes could be traced with fingers. They call it their "Space Screen."

On to the new curtains. A while back, I'd upcycled some sheets into curtains.. but they tended to fall off (get pulled down from) the rod, and eventually I got tired of putting them back up. Plus, the rod was getting loose on the wall and needed to be re-mounted.. so, we got some little wood plaques to act as a stronger foundation for the curtain rod. The big guy helped me paint them to match the wall.

Once the rod was back up, securely, where it belonged, it was time to hang the new curtains (real ones, this time). He opted for some with a Harry Potter theme.

Tada!

The next cool thing is to make a tent over his bed... hopefully it'll look as cool in reality as it does in my imagination!
