Before having kids, Hubby and I would have a big Halloween bash most every year. However, with kids, it's been a little harder to make it happen, so it's actually been a few years since we had one. So, this party had me digging out all our decorations from the deep recesses of our garage.
It was really fun to decorate and plan. Townshend was really excited! He picked his costume early, and we poured over my cake-pop cookbook to decide which designs to serve his friends. We went with monsters and witches.
Townshend is in first grade these days, and at this age we decided to be brave and invite the whole class, gambling that not everyone would show. Our place isn't huge and we don't have a yard, so Hubby and I pondered how to entertain a good sized group in a small space, and we decided to hire a magician. Turns out, some of our friends knew a good one!
Townshend has had some interest in magic in months past, so he was really excited to have a real magician come visit. This guy had a fun show, he invited several of the kids up to be helpers. Some kids were more impressed than others, but there were some moments that he had everyone all in.. and Townshend loved it!
After the magic show, the kids took turns turning each other into mummies:
Which, naturally, lead to a TP fight:
But, the kids seemed to all have fun and Townshend said it was the best party ever! After all the chaos abated, he went up to his room to practice magic (with all his animals as the audience) using the new kit of tricks he was gifted from the magician.
It was a wild and crazy couple of hours. I do think the experience was net positive overall, but wow! 15 kids in a house is a lot of energy. Happily, Hubby and I were still standing when it was over and Townshend was really happy.
However, should we do this again, I think we'll take the celebrations elsewhere.

You're brave; 15 kids indoors is a lot of energy. But it sounds like it was worth it, sounds like everyone had a good time, including the birthday boy. Now that it's over and everyone survived, it'll be fondly remembered. And I love how the cake pops turned out. Well done!
