Summer Bucket List

So, like last year, before summer started we sat down as a family to make a list of things we wanted to do. Then we printed out a calendar to tape to the kitchen wall with our list of summer fun spaced out strategically through summer.

Townshend had a summer camp the first couple weeks after school let out so, not counting the quick trip to Wisconsin, it's been a little bit of a slow start for our fun. Even getting to the local pool has been a challenge since the weather has been less than stellar; lots of cool and rainy days. Then, the other day we finally got in our first visit!!

It was funny, it seemed like the whole town was there; we kept running into people we knew. It was the perfect day for it!

The next thing off our list was to go hiking! There are a couple forest preserves that I enjoy walking through. We got out a little early, to try to beat the heat.. now that it's decided to be summer, the heat is on full blast.

However, with all the rain, things were a little damp and mosquito-filled. Moon has decided that all bugs are very scary. This makes him less than excited to go out into the woods. Then, the paths were very muddy and the creek was very high... it had come up and covered the path we were on.

moon moved around in my frame for a funny effect
So, after not very long, we turned around and went to the nature center to cool off and escape from the bugs. The good news is that, since it's not so very far away, we can be sure to go again, hopefully when it's a bit drier.

Check that one off the summer bucket list!

Here's to drier and fewer bugs! Sounds like a good time!
