Breaking out the Bikes

Chicago springs are fickle things. The temperatures are all over the place during March, so any time there's a nice day it's always good to make the most of it. Happily, we had a warm day and a free minute, so we seized the day!

This past weekend was a full one. Hubby's out of town and there was a church activity (which I was running) that went all morning and into the afternoon. Right afterward there was a choir practice and then a friend came over to visit. While she was here, we got talking and it one thing lead to another and we decided to pull out the bikes from their winter hibernation. They were pretty buried in the garage, but we got them out, checked them over and hooked them up and we were off!

The kids had been cooped up all day, so they were excited to be out and about. Hooray for fresh air!

My friend hadn't ridden a bike in a long while, so she was really, really excited. We didn't have a lot of time, but we saddled up and went to a park, not too far from home, for just a little while. The kids climbed and ran around a bit, but I think my friend was zipping around the whole time we were there.

Eventually, we had to head home. On the way there she rode the single bike, but on the way home she wanted to try pulling the trailer. It's a little more work to pull the two kids behind you; she commented that she'd really had a good workout that day.

It was a fun and spontaneous sort of an afternoon - a lovely start for our spring break! (now if only the weather would hold!)
