Finishing Projects

Way, way back last year in February, I wallpapered the downstairs bathroom. Once the rustic wallpaper was up, it seemed like it was just wanting a simple lantern. My initial plan was to build one to hang from the ceiling. Then I looked up a tutorial online. (hooray for the internet)

But then as I got looking at my pile of scraps, I found a cool little glass vase tucked behind things. So, I decided to build the lantern a little bigger to accommodate the vase. Also, my scraps were a little bigger than the online tutorial's suggestions, so it was going to be a slightly less dainty lantern than I'd originally imagined.

But I forged ahead and built it! Though not perfect, it came out nicely. Then, I found a great stain that matched the wallpaper pretty closely. Since the vase was built into the lantern, I wrapped it in plastic to protect it from the stain.

Voila! Now that it was all stained and assembled, I held it up to consider hanging it, but it was just a bit too bulky to hang. So, I decided it should go on top of the little organizer tower in the bathroom. Finally, time to add some greenery.

And here it is all together!

A nice addition to the room. Plus, it was mostly made from things on hand. Niiiiiiice. Those are my favorite type of projects.
