Once the water mitigation process was complete, we were left with this - a deconstructed kitchen: exposed sub-floor, counter-top, dishwasher and sink in the living room, with cupboards and stove shoved to the side:
And there it stayed for another couple weeks until *FINALLY* the repairs began. Then, at the end of Day One, we had this - no wall holes. At last, progress!:
Next step: Flooring. Though, as wood is a touchy thing, the flooring slats needed to rest to acclimate to the house's humidity. So, we had this for a few days:
And by the end of Week One, we had a floor again! Hooray for no more pokey staples:
By the time Thanksgiving rolled around, our kitchen was pretty much all back together. Though there was no sink or dishwasher still, our stove had returned to usefulness and we were saved from endless slow cooker meals. Still, stove or no stove, there was no flurry of baking this year; our Thanksgiving dinner was had at our church's Alternative Thanksgiving to which we contributed an easily thrown together green salad:
Then, the first week of December we were all evicted while the floors were finished. Townshend and I ran up to Wisconsin to hang out with family and poor Hubby had to stay in a hotel downtown, all by his lonesome. With us away, the workers came in, moved everything off the floors, and wrapped it all in plastic. and got down to business.
Then, after a week away, the floors were dry and it was safe to return. We all came home and the place looked BEAUTIFUL! Oh, the rejoicing! A functioning sink. A dishwasher! The furniture had all been returned to its rightful place and it's impossible to tell that anything ever happened to the floors.
I don't think I've ever appreciated running water so much. First World Problems, I suppose, but still.. so nice to be back to my normal standard of living! And, as Hubby so succinctly put it, it only took 10 weeks!
