Singin' in the Rain
Back in December, I was feeling like my life was getting a little static. So, I decided that it was high time I delved back into performing. Many, many years ago - practically in another lifetime - I was a music performance major and, while I made the conscious decision to not pursue it as a career, it is still something I really enjoy doing. Happily, for people like me, there is a wonderful thing called Community Theater.
our first days with our raincoats
Late last year, I started doing some research to see what the area offered and I stumbled onto a local troupe in time to attend the auditions. This year, they were putting on Singin' in the Rain (one of my favorite musicals of all time). Though a little leery of the tap dancing, the audition posting promised that people with no experience were welcome and I thought, what do I have to lose?
The auditions were probably the most involved that I've ever experienced, and I did not exactly shine in the dancing portion, but they invited me to be part of the ensemble anyway. That was perfect, just what I was wanting; just the right amount of commitment.

Turns out, it was a great troupe. During the rehearsal period, our choreographer was patient and brilliant. She got us all dancing (60% if the cast had never tap danced before)! Here's the clip from one practice that she shared so us n00bs could practice at home:
Everyone was lots of fun and the directors were really great and the production team worked magic with the "gym-itorium". We had real rain and fabulous costumes and a live orchestra. In the end, things came together really nicely and we got great reviews. I plan to work with these guys again soon!

Here's a photo dump of some of my favorites from behind the scenes:
Come on with the rain!

Broadway Rhythm it's got me, everybody sing and DANCE!
before strike, we all got to play in the rain, one last time
I'm so glad I did it. It was such a blast! Yeah, not feeling static anymore. And, surprisingly, I actually came to like tap dancing.
