Vintage Goodness

Truly, I've never really seen the draw of precious stones. I mean, I am a big of fan of the ring Hubby gave me when he proposed; it's fabulous, but it's more about symbolism and sentimental value than anything. Stirling silver and pearls are more my style.

Over the years I've accumulated several pearl necklaces; some costume jewelry some real. Also, somewhere along the way, I've ended up with two bags of pearls (from broken necklaces) that each belonged to one of my grandmothers - one from my mom's mom and one from my dad's.

These baggies of pearls have lived in my jewelry box for some years now. I've kept them all this time, as back-burner projects, intending to do something interesting with them but never quite sure what. I mean, sure, I could string them onto a nice string add a clasp and voila! they'd be wearable again.... but I wanted a design with a little more pizzaz. I was waiting for an idea to come along that would set them apart.

Somewhere, in my many hours of cruising Esty, I stumbled upon this lovely necklace. I loved the design. Not only is it eye catching, it reminded me of those old-timey lace collars women used to wear. It was the perfect, vintage-esque inspiration for a necklace of my Grandmas' beads.

So, I gathered my supplies and (with only a little irritation at the futsy nature of jewelry making) assembled my necklace. Woo!

I'm very pleased. I really like the combination of the two different types of beads along with the aged brass chain. Now I can wear some of my very own family history!
