Introducing Baby

Ok, before you get ALL excited, no. The baby has not arrived just yet... but it's definitely looming in the not-too-distant future and it's most definitely on my mind much of the time. So, this is an excellent time to talk about the online presence of our soon-to-arrive new family member, just to keep all you folks (you know, all 5 of you) who read my blog in the loop.

As it happens, it took a little while for my Hubby and I to get to this point in growing our family. While that was frustrating at times, I chalk it up to everything happening in the Lord's time. Plus, with all that waiting around, Hubby and I had plenty of time to discuss and plot out various things regarding this pending little one. In fact, we picked out the names long time before we were ever actually expecting (and we even like them still!). But amid all the things we discussed, one of the things we settled on was how we'd approach the world wide web in relation to information we'd share about our baby.

Lots of people handle the online presence of babies in lots of different ways; I've observed a wide spectrum of choices. Some people choose to have no online presence whatsoever; no pictures, no Facebook, no blogs. Nothing. Some people keep their blogs, but make them private. Some people post every little detail, just short of their social security number.

I like my blog, and I like to keep it public but I also like keeping the sharing of info with the public within fairly contained bounds. So! I'll keep my blog, and I'll definitely post pictures and, most likely, will tell goofy stories as well. However, I will be continuing in the trend of not sharing names or specifically specific locations on my blog ("Chicago" is too big to count as a specifically specific location).

To that end, Hubby and I have decided to use code names for our little ones (and even have any future additions covered as well) and to not use the real name online; let the kids create an online presence for themselves.

So! The code name. As it turns out, Hubby and I are both big fans of The Who, and we've decided to use the last names of the members of The Who as code names for our kids. Since it was Hubby's idea, he got to pick which name we used first. So, for this our first kid - regardless of gender, instead of the actual name, we will use "Townshend" as the code name instead :)  (the next will be Moon, followed by Entwistle, and if needed, Daltery)   I even created a little gadget on the sidebar over there with pictures of our little family :)

A little unorthodox? Maybe.. but it makes us happy. And, to complete the whole plan, I painted this awesome awesome shirt with Pete Townshend rocking out on his guitar which, incidentally, will be the outfit we'll be bringing our little baby home in:

Sweet!

Huh. I've heard you guys talk about The Who before, but I've never heard any of their music. Now I'll have to go dig around YouTube. You oughta post a few of your favorites!
