Way back in May of 2010, my Hubby and I went on an epic road trip of awesomeness. And it was most definitely awesome! Along the way we stopped in Fort Bragg, CA to ride horses on a black sand beach.
Initially, our guide wasn't sure we'd show up and when we did, he laughed a little that we were such complete city-slickers (crazy folk from Chicago who wanted to ride in the rain), but he fitted us with raincoats and helmets and we were on our way.

Though you can't see it, that's the ocean behind us
As the weather was pretty foul that day, we were the only folks who did show up to take the guided tour. That turned out to be pretty great though, as we got to bond with our guide and chat about all sorts of things the whole time we were out on our ride.
He told us about his career caring for and training horses. It was clear he loved what he did. He helped us get over our apprehensions about riding and, by the end, both my Hubby and I were feeling pretty comfortable with the whole horse-riding thing, city-slickerness notwithstanding.
As we parted ways at the end of the tour, our guide offered us a horseshoe. He figured we were still practically newlyweds and told us that, if we put this shoe above our door, it'd bring us good luck. We thought it was such a fun sentiment and we took it home with full intention of hanging it up.
However, amid the shuffle of switching up apartments, it got stuck in a box and was only discovered just recently. So, I cleaned it up a bit and now it is hanging above our door, open-side-up, to bring our home good luck!
