A few weeks ago, I was talking with a friend (a children's librarian here in the city), who was debating the pros and cons of getting herself to a book signing by Suzanne Collins (author of a super popular, recently released book), one of her favorite authors of all time. My friend was really excited about the possibility and, in the end - despite considerable inconvenience, she decided to go and get her book signed.
That conversation got me thinking. Is there any person/celebrity who I would go out of my way to meet and get a picture with? Any authors I love? Any musicians I adore? Any movie stars I'd be interested in seeing outside of a movie? I racked my brain for a possible person; one who the experience and fond memory would outweigh the crazy wait in line... and concluded that there probably was not.
Then, this past weekend, I proved myself wrong.
So, there's this blog I've been following for the past couple months. One with the most adorable tasty treats imaginable. The lady who runs the blog sort of seems like the celebrity of it all has taken her a little by surprise. She's pretty much the cutest thing ever, and I rather like her style!
Recently, she released a cookbook (which I blogged about here) and, thanks to her clever cakepop ideas, I have a new macabre standard for my Halloween celebrations (which has endeared her to me tenfold) - skewered eyeballs on forks. These will be so much better than last year's frosted donut holes!
So, when I heard that Bakerella was coming to the Chicago area to do a cookbook signing, I began to seriously consider going, crazy-long line and all.
I admit I did hem and haw a little, it was a bit of a drive and, in attending, the whole of my precious Saturday morning would be spent... but how cool would it be to have met the person who's cakepops would make my Halloween parties awesome for years to come? Ok, I know, I know, "cool" is a relative term.. but seriously! When else would she be out on tour?
So I went.
crazy-long line (which i missed 'cuz I was there early enough to be #3.. Neeeerd!)
Yep.. cutest thing ever. Complete with a Southern twang.
She had a question/answer session first. She's a very enthusiastic speaker.
Then she got down to business.
Today I fully embraced my geekiness and it was fun!

Love it! I follow her blog too!
That's awesome! She's a fun blogger :) Have you made any cakepops?
Embracing geekiness is always fun! :)
Oh yes :) And makes for a good story too!
I follow her blog too and I just love the way she always jokes about her smile and wave (I think she calls it the side smile goofy wave). That's cool that you went to go see her! I tried making the cake pops once, but they certainly did NOT look like hers in the least bit. I am going to try again though for Halloween (those pumpkins are just calling me!!) I need to go and pick up the book. Perhaps someday. :)
I'm going to try the pumpkins too :) I am a little worried that it all seems so simple in my head, that when I go to make them it'll be ever so much more difficult....
