My memory is notorious for being patchy. This tendency is especially bad when I'm tired or life gets super busy. A classic example is when, back in college, my roommates got frequent enjoyment from messing with my poor, frenzied brain. Their favorite game was to ask me, at some point in the afternoon, what I'd had for breakfast that day... to which I'd often only answer: "Ummmmmm...."
Happily, life got calmer for me after college and, consequently, my ability to remember things improved noticeably. (Most days I almost always remember what I've had for breakfast.) However, even then, without classes and homework to keep track of anymore, I still forgot stuff or double-booked myself. I realized the Real World still needed me to remember important things. So, I got me a Personal Digital Assistant. It was a life saver.
Over the last few years, my little Palm Pilot has been good to me. However, the lifespan of an electronic toy is a fleeting thing and, in the last little while, mine has started developing a little bit of a personality. At first, I didn't mind it getting a little quirky; I'm not real demanding of my electronics - as long as it remembers my calendar, we can still be friends.
Then, the other week, I left it at my parents' house and the battery died. They were kind enough to send it to me in the mail. It arrived safely and I was glad to have it back. However, it seemed that, in addition to its already existing quirks, it had now developed abandonment issues as well.
Whereas before it didn't like sharing information with my computer, now it seemed to dislike being charged. This was a problem. I had survived the week without my PDA pretty well, and eventually it did charge up ok, but the idea of having it die completely, with no way to retrieve my calendar ever again, stopped my heart cold.
It was clearly time for an upgrade.. and this one is better all around.
Wohoo! May it live long and prosper :)

You are a funny girl! Though I've looked at those gizmos more than once and pondered getting one. How I have so many "unscheduled" days, and STILL manage to double book regularly, and occasionally triple book, is beyond me. Though, now that I'm not teaching piano anymore the incidence is down. Somewhat.
Heh.. it's funny how quickly I became dependent on my first one. Seriously, that week while it was at the Parents I began to constantly feel a little paranoid that I'd forget some important meeting or dinner with the missionaries, or doctor appointment and be very sorry later.. happily, none of those things happened, but I am happy to now have one that is fully functional :)
Did you ever try just a paper calendar? I've tried those a couple of times, and they just don't work for me. That's been one of the big things holding me back from spending money like that on a gadget: I don't use the low-tech version very effectively. Of course, there is always something more FUN about a high-tech toy, and once you spend the money, you have to use it to justify the expense...
Clearly I've gone back and forth on this.
I actually use both.. I have a calendar on the wall by my computer at home that I write big and important things on.. However, the handicap of that, for me, is that it is at home. My PDA I keep in my bag with me always.
I like the PDA for the less exciting things (church meetings, hair cuts, dr appointments..) because I can put in notes with the appointments. (Where they'll be, what I should bring with me..) and my calendar doesn't have the space for that kind of stuff.. plus, it's at home and harder to remind me of things once I've gone for the day.
However, all that being said.. I get the cheaper (older) versions of these gadgets 'cuz, while they are less cool looking than the iTouch, they're also exceptionally less expensive. and all I really need is a portable calendar and a to-do list of reminders.
So what kind did you get? And where? It looks like a palm. A few months ago when I thot I was going to have to replace mine I had a real hard time finding one. One store told me no body made the simple ones any more. Everything was moving to phone apps, which didn't thrill me.
it is a Palm m500. We bought it online on Amazon. The only real draw back is that we (accidentally) got one that doesn't sync.. but I'm fine just entering things manually. Really, I just need the calendar.
I actually admire your dependence on a PDA. I have tried many times and failed utterly on all accounts to put my life on paper or in a computer. I just never referred to it and those things I forgot remained forgotten and things I remembered I did without help... Yay for new toys though!
So, did you hear that Palm has pretty much gone under? Their stock has dropped to about $5 a share and the cash on hand they have is figured to last them just a few months. I wasn't very happy wtih the Palm Tungsten I bought from Amazon either. But I figure that's Amazon, not Palm.
Huh... no, I hadn't heard that Palm was pretty much going under. I've been seeing ads around in the trains that are from Palm for a new product that's similar to the iTouch.. I wonder if the blackberries, iPhones and iTouches aren't taking over the market. Lots of people like having everything all in one I guess.
Sorry you had a bad experience with amazon.com... I've found it depends on the vendor... some of the 3rd parties are just using amazon as a market place and those are a little less reliable.
