Beautifying Things - the Inside

When we left off building, the little library was nicely square and sturdy! However, it was in much want of some beautifying.

Since the current Covid-craziness prevents us from doing our decorations indoors, together, and painting outside in humidity is never a great idea.. we decided we'd have to do it separately. So I volunteered to turn this box into a Tardis. It was a very exciting prospect!

First thing, seal up the joints to be sure that it will be able to withstand the Chicagoland weather for a good long time.

So, I patched up the screw holes and sealed up the joints, and attempted to even out some of the seams. The sealant that I used in the joints said it would need 7-14 days to dry. Since painting was the next step, I definitely needed things to really be completely dry, so on to waiting. In the meantime, I started prepping the frame that would be the door, getting it ready to be painted blue. Since this was the only plastic piece, I got some primer specifically for the plastic.

Finally, the seal was dry and it was time to start the fun part - painting the inside. We thought a galaxy inside a Tardis was really the only logical design. So, it was decided!

First thing, paint a base layer of black.

After a couple coats and a day or two for drying, it was time to add colors with some white speckles for stars:

As a little bonus, or hidden Easter egg, my friend thought it'd be funny to paint an exploding Tardis inside (apparently it was an episode where that event was predicted by Van Gogh).. so of course that had to go in.

First, lay down the color for the explosion:

Then, add the details on top:

Woo! I love how it turned out!

A final coat of varnish to seal it off and it was time to move on to beautifying the outside!

Such a project! But it looks like it's coming together very well!
