Taking the Edge Off (the boredom)

Having a newborn in the house makes getting out and doing things feel extra labor-intensive. During the week I generally get us out in the mornings, even if it is nothing more than running errands for an hour or so. However, Saturdays I get lazy. Hubby is home and we often just hangout at home if we don't have anything pressing. This is great for Hubby and me, but Townshend sometimes gets a bit stir-crazy by the end of the day.

So, during that witching "hour" between naps and dinner, I pulled out a new activity to take the edge off the boredom of the day. Over at this website they have all kinds of fun ideas that are about right for Townshend, Today we played with fizzy eggs!

I asked him which color he'd like to make the eggs, and he chose yellow (cuz "eggs are yellow, Mom"). Then we pulled out a couple little droppers, some vinegar and baking soda. This was our first time using the droppers, so Townshend struggled a little with the mechanics initially.

Still not impressed with simply dropping the little drips he was getting from the dropper, he turned to poking the eggs instead. He thought this was great fun.

THEN he stuck the dropper (covered in broken egg) back into the cup of vinegar.. that was REALLY cool! At first, he wasn't sure what exactly was making the fizzing; it stopped once the dropper had been cleaned of its baking soda, no matter how many times he dipped it back in...

But it didn't take long for him to figure it out, which naturally lead to all the eggs ending up in the little cup of vinegar for a fabulous fizzy finale!

Good times! These things generally last all of 10 mins (from set-up to take-down) but it's a fun few minutes!

That would have been fun to see. Funny, when he was teaching me all about eggs the other day he didn't say anything about them being yellow. Must have missed that detail.
