Getting Festive

It's December! That means it's time to decorate! Normally, I'm all about putting up the tree and other things to brighten up the place on the first Saturday of the month. However, this year I found myself putting it off and putting it off.

There's something daunting about having a little bundle of mischief, curiosity and energy that essentially creates a little destructo-boy and I was feeling a good deal of stress about how to work with him and the Christmas decorations.

Online, I saw people suggesting putting up a felt tree, with ornaments that toddlers can take on and off at their pleasure. It seemed like a reasonable suggestion, so I put one together:

The tree was a big hit! He squealed and played with it for a good while before being distracted and moving on to something new. However, in his excitement, within three hours, the tree was torn from the wall.

This decided it for me. Hubby and I chatted it over - weighing the pros and cons, and determined that we were both perfectly ok not putting up a big tree this year. We'll see how we feel next year. Instead, I strung up some ornaments and some lights around our front window to suggest a Christmas tree:

It's quite lovely and festive and waaaaaaay less stressful than constantly chasing Townshend away from the tree. Win win.

Hurray for knowing when to simplify! We put up the big tree. BUT. There's no garland. And the bottom almost 1/2 is barely decorated because the kids keep rearranging... and not just Tigress, lol!
