Costume Fun

My mom is a great seamstress. Some people listen to music or play video games to sooth frazzled nerves, my mom would sew. So, growing up, I was exposed to the inner workings of making things from fabric. However, while I thought it was a cool skill, I never really mastered it myself. My memories of trying to sew are mostly of my inadvertently tweaking Mom's machine so it didn't work, or getting so frustrated that Mom would just finish the project to give us both some peace.

Still, today, I have my own machine and have retained the basics and have even done a few projects on my own (solely with remedial stitches for the occasional carseat cover). But, for my Hubby's Halloween costume this year, I've stepped it up to a new level.

I actually bought a pattern, (the easiest sort of pattern that I know - Simplicity), and tonight I opened it up and pinned the pieces to the fabric.. so this is feeling really real.

I found myself looking over the bits off tissue on the fabric and trying to decipher the cryptic symbols and resisting the urge to hyperventilate a little.. and wishing I'd paid better attention way back when.. too bad she lives too far away to bail me out should things go awry......
Wish me luck!!
