I'm really starting to like these Activity Days that I'm doing with the 8-11yr old girls at church. The girls are fun to work with, but what's even better is when we have guest speakers.
A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine, M, approached me and asked if she and her husband, B, could teach the girls about chocolates one evening I thought, "What's not to love?" and we scheduled them in right away.
Turns out these two are very serious about their chocolate. Before we got down to the business of playing with chocolate, B chatted with the girls for a while about all he had learned about chocolate over the years. He talked about the history and origins of chocolate and how it has changed over the years. Then, he told about how he and his wife got into making chocolates and all the various tools they use to make the candies.
He also went on to tell how they get all their chocolate locally, from Blommer's (the delightfully fragrant factory downtown). Apparently there are several grades to quality chocolate. The grade that they get is two above the FannyMay chocolates, and let me tell you.. it is delightful!
Then, we all headed down the hall to the kitchen and got to work.
The girls had a blast!
I couldn't resist making a few too, and my hubby and I enjoyed the fruits of the day's labors!

Now that sounds like an activity an 11 year old would love! And left-overs - how could that be a problem?!
For sure! I had all these noble intentions to take my extras to work so we, at home, didn't eat them all.. but we made quick work of them ourselves :)
